I was chasin′ my demons, carryin' my cross
Searchin′ for survivors in a battle I had lost
I'd proven my valor, but I had no sense of pride
A charlatan for a king can make you blind

I was hopin' for reasons
Someone to believe in
When an angel of mercy
Appeared before my eyes

Here in the darkness we′re all the same

I held her closer, banishin' my fears
Death′s a sanctuary for those drownin' in their tears
Castin′ our shadows when movin' through the fight
On the weary in the wicked and the wise
