Old St Luan Songtext
von Washington Irving

Old St Luan Songtext

We all pull ourselves over the sea
Until we can see our blessed homeland
Banished from peace and the monasteries′ keep
To build our new home in the white Scottish sun

And I will not lose the race to the island
So I cut off my finger and threw it ahead
And now the blood has stained the white sea a foamin'
Maybe Old St Luan′s not right in the head

Oh Lord, Oh Lord there's red sea around me
I've been striking out for the shore
Oh you part the waves gently around me
I cannot fall on my own no more

Oh please, lord please the sirens are wailing
You know I′d pluck out my eyes if they caused me to sin
And the wine is all gone from the weeks we been sailing
Won′t you send me the reed? Wash the salt from my skin

But he was striking out ahead of me
And I would have no place to lay my head down
The first human flesh on the shore rest
And you lie still in the swell of the sun

Oh Lord, Oh Lord there's red sea around me
I′ve been striking out for the shore
Oh you part the waves gently around me
I cannot fall on my own no more

Yes Lord, Yes Lord there's red sea around me
I′ve been striking out for the shore
Oh you part the waves gently around me
I cannot fall on my own no more
