Johnny The Lightning Songtext
A balmy evening
Setting midsummer sun
Low and red in the sky
On his shoulders read ′The Lightning'
His mother sewed so fine
So Johnny fired it up to ride
He wasn′t an outlaw
He wasn't a saint
Just another ordinary guy
And on an ordinary roadside
On an ordinary night
Forever Johnny will lie
And he'll never be a father
He′ll never take a wife
Ne′er a dawn or a dusk will he see
But he'll never grow old
And he′ll never grow tired
Forever Johnny The Lightning will he be
His shining machine swayed gently to and fro
As he wound down the tree-lined lanes
Rose and rolled with the land
And pulled at his command
And purred like a raging panther tamed
And the wind flowed coolly
Through his auburn hair
Which waved with lustre and curl
And with his eyes of pale azure
And his pounding heart so sure
Did his golden wings unfurl
And he'll never be a father
He′ll never take a wife
Ne'er a dawn or a dusk will he see
But he′ll never grow old
And he'll never grow tired
Forever Johnny The Lightning will he be
And where The Lightning struck
A few flowers for a time
Bravely clung to mark the place
Now no one would ever tell
They withered and fell
And like Johnny vanished without a trace
And his once shining machine
Languishes now in the yard
But another rusting ravaged shell
Its polished chrome now flaking
Its tyres flat and barely a nut and bolt left to sell
And he'll never be a father
He′ll never take a wife
Ne′er a dawn or a dusk will he see
But he'll never grow old
And he′ll never grow tired
Forever Johnny The Lightning will he be
And it was into my ear
In a bar beside the sea
That to me this sombre tale came
And etched into his knuckle
A tiny lightning bolt
So poor Johnny may ride again
And he'll never be a father
He′ll never take a wife
Ne'er a dawn or a dusk will he see
But he′ll never grow old
And he'll never grow tired
Forever Johnny The Lightning will he be
Will he be
Will he be
Will he be
