Things I Miss Songtext

Things I Miss Songtext
Sun beats down on his back drawn tight
Salt stings his eyes and blurs his sight
Drives the shovel down with all his might
As the blisters mount in the fading light
Frame still strong, early hint of grey
Not the body that aches at the end of the day
Foot follows foot as he makes his way
Chokes on the dust as I hear him say
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
What′s left but the things I miss
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
Nothing left but the things I miss
She sits at her desk things piled high
Works through lunch just to pass the time
Minutes into hours into days gone by
Feeling kinda not on and not knowing why
Simpler times simpler things
When the future held what promise brings
Stares out the window as the telephone rings
Catch in her throat where the bitterness stings
And she says
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
What's left but the things I miss
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
Nothing left but the things I miss
So full of promise but couldn′t be told
Even superman falls if he jumps too bold
World calls time in a voice so cold
Leaves a face too young with eyes much too old
So he sits at the bar and knocks one back
Calls for another and chases with Jack
Lights a smoke, fingers the pack
Calls for another and adds to the stack
And he says
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
What's left but the things I miss
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
Nothing left but the things I miss
Salt stings his eyes and blurs his sight
Drives the shovel down with all his might
As the blisters mount in the fading light
Frame still strong, early hint of grey
Not the body that aches at the end of the day
Foot follows foot as he makes his way

Spent a lifetime searching for my find
What′s left but the things I miss
Spent a lifetime searching for my find
