Lifeboat Songtext
von Greg Anderson

Lifeboat Songtext

A faceless crew
Casts off from the mainland
Gazing out at the storm
They′re wearing blue

The sea is rough
They cling to the bow
With chapped hands
Barely strong enough

On the horizon
I see them now
Pale hands reach
With voices screaming out

We pull them aboard
But there's not enough space
In those we leave
I see my mother′s face

Another day
Another storm
I've become numb
In the unremitting spray

I don my gown
This thin sheet of plastic
Keeps me safe
As the waves come crashing down

I turn to the captain
And meet their gaze
See their fear
As the sea drags them away

Now helmless and helpless
I see it now
I admit that
This ship is going down

Each day I give you more of my pieces
But I've given you as much as I can
What remains feels so hollow and broken
But just about able to stand
I see every face as I′m sleeping
They greet me as soon as I wake
Now I′m begging for some kind of solace
Just give me a hand I can take

Each day I give you more of my pieces
But I've given you as much as I can
What remains feels so hollow and broken
But just about able to stand
I see every face as I′m sleeping
They greet me as soon as I wake
Now I'm begging for some kind of solace
Just give me a hand I can take
