There was a man called Johnny Brown and he lived alone outside of
town, in a cottage all rough and
tumbled down in the wild and rugged mountains.
He had a dog and he called it Jack and he had some chickens out the
back and he played a tune as you′d pass by... he called 'Sally gardens′


He'd travel far for miles around his squeezebox ran in every town for
a penny or a shilling or a half 'a′
crown and a hand from all the neighbors.
He played for the lords and ladies all and wakes and weddings big and
small for the dancing girls in the
village hall... he played the Sally gardens

Oh they soon captured Johnny Brown his world of travels nearly round
in his cottage all rough and tumbled
down by the wild and rugged mountains.
On a stone in a churchyard here in town lies here poor old Johnny
Brown, his music echoes silent now... as he played the Sally Gardens
