In the Jailhouse Now Songtext

In the Jailhouse Now Songtext
He′s in the jailhouse now
He's in the jailhouse now
I told him once or twice
To quit playing cards and shootin′ dice
He's in the jailhouse now
Now I had a friend named Ramblin' Bob
Who used to steal, gamble, and rob
He thought he was the smartest guy in town
Well I found out last Monday that Bob got locked up Sunday
They got him in the jailhouse ′way downtown
He′s in the jailhouse now
He's in the jailhouse now
I told him once or twice
To quit playing cards and shootin′ dice
He's in the jailhouse now
Oh, Pete Mitchell
Now, little one
Now I went out last Tuesday
Met a girl named Suzy
I told her I was the swellest man around
We started spending my money
Then she started to call me honey
We took in every honky-tonk in town
We′re in the jailhouse now
We're in the jailhouse now
I told the judge right to his face
We didn′t like to see this place
We're in the jailhouse now
Thank you!
Thank y'all very much!
I feel sure that most of you′ll recognize the ol′ Jimmie Rodger's favorite
That I′ve been singing on the Grand Ole Opry for many, many years
It's still one my special, favorite Jimmie Rodger′s songs, course love all of them
He's always been my idol and my inspiration
He′s still the greatest of all, no matter who you talk about
He was the greatest
Well we're always proud to have a few requests for that special one of Jimmie's there
Here′s a song that I would probably sing if I never had a request for it
′Cause this song is about my home state of Texas
And Randy back there on the drums, course they are on my side
But ol' Ronnie is from South Carolina and ol′ Leon from Alabama
And Pete Mitchell here this little skinny guitar, I mean, little slender guitar picker
Pete Mitchell, he's our draft dodger from Canada, you know
Ol′ Pete pulled the switch on them, he left Canada to get out of the draft
And look what a mess we got him in
Now he wants to go home, we won't let him go back
But anyhow, ol′ Pete, and Leon, and Ronnie
They accuse me of singing this next song many times
Without anybody asking me to do it and sometimes I do, really and truly
But tonight I did have a very special request
For one of my favorite songs about my home state of Texas
We're gonna do it right now and I'll tell you who asked for it after I get through singing it
But first we′re gonna sing it, let′s waltz across you know what
He's in the jailhouse now
I told him once or twice
To quit playing cards and shootin′ dice
He's in the jailhouse now
Now I had a friend named Ramblin' Bob
Who used to steal, gamble, and rob
