What Time Is It in Portland? Songtext

I don′t wanna go out
I guess I'm just feeling down
I′ve seen five generations of friends come and go
Through this revolvin' door town

And the kids comin' up
They wear nicer shoes
Then the ones we used to wear
And I know it′s rude, but when I′m introduced
I find it truly hard to care

So I've been gettin′ to know these buildings
I just hang around on the streets
Gettin' to know the feelin′
Of being obsolete

And the city is
A grand old elm
But it's gonna grow new leaves
And it′s a long way down to the ground for such a
Short time on the tree

And I act like
I don't know what I could do
But only fools fight
When they know they're gonna lose

So what time is it in Portland?
You know I like keepin′ up with you
And are you wake into the Willamette?
Or, sayin′ goodnight to the moon?

And don't count me out just yet
I′ve got just enough sap left
To put myself on a plane and
Make some kinda big come back

And I act like
I don't understand, when I do
I do

Sometimes you just gotta see
If I would put up a fight for you
Sometimes you just gotta see
If I would put up a fight for you
Sometimes you just gotta see
If I would put up a fight for you
