Day Job Songtext
von Anna Vaus

Day Job Songtext

Well the sun comes up about six o′ three
And it hides behind the old oak tree
Til the birds on the porch start singing about 7:15
And the coffee can only stay so hot
About 42 minutes in a broken pot
So I got to only make it enough for me
There's no one in this house that′ll drink it
And in between the thoughts of you I got to thinking

I ought to get a day job
Ought to find a nine-to-five
Ought to make some money
Ought to let somebody
Else take my time
I've been crying
Since you been gone
For all the time I waste on you, baby
I ought to get a day job

I tried giving my momma a call
Tried watching paint dry on the wall
And I tried
But what's the point of growing grass if it ain′t green?
Well the telephone rang cause she never picked up
And I honestly don′t mind too much
Cause I know just what she'd tell my daddy
And what she′d say to me

I ought to get a day job
Ought to find a nine-to-five
Ought to make some money
Ought to let somebody
Else take my time
I've been crying
Since you been gone
For all the time I waste on you, baby
I ought to get a day job

If I ever get a paycheck, take it to the bank
Cash it with the teller, tell him twenty and change
Buy myself a payphone, dial 411
If it′s the only way to find you, babe
Hey!

I ought to get a day job
Ought to find a nine-to-five
Ought to make some money
Ought to let somebody
Else take my time
I've been crying
Since you been gone
For all the time I waste on you, baby
Yeah, for all the time I waste on you, baby
I ought to get a day job
