A boy saw a little rose standing,
A little rose on the heath,
It was so young and morning-fresh,
He ran quickly to see it close,
And beheld it with great joy.

Little rose on the heath.


The boy said: "I shall pick you,
Little rose on the heath!"
The little rose said: "I shall prick you,
So that you’ll forever think of me,
And I will not endure it."
Little rose, little rose, little red rose,
Little rose on the heath.

And the wild boy picked
The little rose on the heath;
The little rose defended itself and pricked,
But no pain or sorrow helped it,
It had to suffer it anyway.
