We buried a man in the scrub today

We saw where his tracks had left the

Perhaps a mirage had lewered him on till his mind was
crazed and his reasoning gone, in the land of no second chance

He′d come outback from a city home for adventure and romance,
but his car broke down in a patch of scrub between
Birdsville and Betoota Pub in the land of no second chance
And he drove away from Betoota Pub they say without a second glance
Ignoring advice that bushmen gave and now there's
another lonely grave in the land of no second chance
The circling crows and hawks announce his resting place in advance
A stranger had disobeyed the law that nature
makes and fools ignore in the land of no second chance
We found his car where a stone had
pierced his petrol tank like a lance
So he started walking like others had done in the blinding

The tranquil moon light seems to mock the devilish heatwaves dance,
around the grave all night and day,
while hot winds sigh and tree tops
