Millennium Blues Songtext

Millennium Blues Songtext

I heard a baby wailin′, she wanted to be fed,
I heard a grown man cryin', he couldn′t find the bread.
I heard a fat man sigh, he couldn't figure why,
He couldn't move his head, they couldn′t move his bed,
But he was already dead.

I saw a poor man beggin′, he couldn't buy a meal,
I saw his shoulders saggin′, he didn't want to steal.
I heard a tycoon moan, he′s screamin' down the phone,
He missed an easy trick, he missed his lunch with Mick,
But I was feelin′ sick.

I saw the mighty wave, it was a wondrous sight,
The people jumped for joy, but then they ran in fright.
They heard the crashin' sound, they moved to higher ground, but there was no escape,
The walls began to break, but it was all too late.

I saw a nation dyin', the vultures stripped it clean,
We didn′t move a muscle, the piggies got the cream.
They moved it far away, to the land of yodel-ey,
The bankers rubbed their hands,
The famine took the land, the dream had turned to sand.

This life is far too short, the future can′t be bought,
We're livin′ for today, someday we're gonna pay,
Must be another way.

I don′t believe in luck, we shouldn't pass the buck,
This ain′t no fine romance, we've got to take a chance,
We've got to get up and dance.

Why do we sit and wait? It′s not a twist of fate.
Why all this apathy that what will be will be?
Is that our destiny?
