A fortune teller told me that my life was bound to fail
She said, "Don′t make too many plans, that train goes off the rails
Present is a gift, so don't look it in the mouth"
She said a lot of things like this, she filled my head with doubt

The fortune teller′s name was Mary
And the things she told me were so scary
But in the end, none of it came true
In the cover of that night, I leaned over into the candlelight
And said, "Mary, oh Mary
Oh, Mary, does somebody lovе you?
Do you need somebody
To keep you warm?
Do you need somebody
To teach you how to mourn
Whеn they're gone?"


By certain scales, a life goes by so very fast
Some days go easy, some will wear you like a mask

She said a lot of things like this, she had me freaking out

If your fortune teller′s name is Mary
And the things she tells you are so scary

I saw her looking out the window one day
As the migratory geese were passing through
I don't go in for crystal balls, but in that moment, I think I knew
Mary had no talent with her with her tea leaves and her cards

Hope she wears a jacket when it rains
