Unemployment Line Songtext

Unemployment Line Songtext

I remember how strong I felt as I drove to work that day
Then the close sign on the metal gate, they turned us all away
Now there′s parts of my life in every pawn shop in town
I'm fourty years old, no job to hold
They beat ya′ right to the ground

In unemployment line,
We spend our time it's a lonely place to go
And I can't look in the peoples eyes
There might be someone,
Someone there I know

Now the kids know that my love for
Them don′t come in a bag from the store
The disappointment′s in their eyes
When I bring nothing through the door
And the orange juice tastes like water, she swears it's just the same
It hurts me to know we gotta play these penny pinchin′ games

In unemployment line,
We spend our time it's a lonely place to go
And I can′t look in the peoples eyes
There might be someone,
Someone there I know

Well lot's of folks eatin′ from dumpsters
Back of the A and P
Feedin' my family from a garbage can
Well, that'd be next for me
The preacher tells me if I keep the
Faith I′d find heaven on Earth right now
But if Jesus came to ask for food
Stamps well it′d probably turn him down

In unemployment line,
We spend our time it's a lonely place to go
And I can′t look in the peoples eyes
There might be someone, someone there I know

There might be someone, someone there I know

Now Mr. President down in Washington
And all you fat cats doing fine
You might understand the wallow-less
Field if you stood in this endless line

In unemployment line,
We spend our time it's a lonely place to go
And I can′t look in the peoples eyes
There might be someone,
Someone there I know
