The automaton in the window watched her every day
As she crossed the cobblestone, she never met his secret gaze
Oh, how he longed to call to her, see her parasol tilt his way
Deep within his robotic heart, he knew what he wanted to say

Then at last one day, through the window, he finally caught her eye
She stepped through the door, they felt connection that could not be denied
Leaning in, her breath on his cheek, he knew it was finally time
To let her know how he felt, he was compelled to reveal he's alive

Looking in her eyes he knew his love he had to proclaim
The robotic gentleman would start by asking her name
With a sudden grind, gears come to life as he struggled to speak
This was his first time and the girl fell back with a shriek

In a panic he reached for her, his throat a gurgling creak
Without delay she ran away, calling him a mechanical freak
The automaton crashed down to the floor
Heart fractured and scattered, it didn't matter to him anymore
