A Short Illness Songtext
von William Doyle

A Short Illness Songtext

Do you expect a change in your circumstances?
That could affect the way this loan could be repaid
Whoever puts the cross inside the yes box
Fate can invite itself without ringing the bell
Catching you unawares, leaving you unprepared
There was no looming threat, just a sudden upset
Wind howling further west into a short illness

There in the spare bedroom, one autumn afternoon
I took a sudden dip and struggled with breathing
Knew then I′d not return, all bridges having burned
Despite philanthropy, giving and charity
Nothing entitled me to free immortality
There was no need to knock, Heaven's door is unlocked
All it needs is a nudge, forced by a short illness

And if there isn′t a God in existence
Either way I've no time to debate that in my mind
Not with what I've remaining on terra firma plains of things in short supply
No matter how I try, I′m joining the alumni without saying goodbye

I′ve lived a brilliant life
But how will death be described?
When written in the press
Died of a short illness
No, I cannot accept all of this, nothing left
I am trying to fight but, oh, here comes eternal life
