I Am Australian Songtext

Anyone was here today, you would have seen me do this one
It′s a very passionate song that I do
I had the privelege of working a little bit
Over the last couple of weeks with Dobe Newton
The man inspired me and I take this opportunity to do one of his songs
Co-written with Bruce Woodley
A song that everyone should know
I came upon the prison ship bowed down by iron chains
I fought the land, endured the lash, waited for the rain
I'm a settler, I′m a farmer's wife on a dry and barren run
A convict, a free man and became Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on a long, dusty road
I′m a child of the depression
And I saw the good times come
I′m a bushy, I'm a battler
I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream, we sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
I′m a teller of stories
I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira
And I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse
And Ned Kelly on the run
The one who waltzed Matilda
Yes, I am Australian
I′m a hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil in the plains
The mountains and the valleys
The droughts and flooding rain
I am the rock, I am the sky
The river when she runs
The spirit of the great land
I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
To share our dream, we sing with one voice
And I am, you are, we are Australian
I came from the dreaming, from a dusty red soil plain
I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame
And I stood upon the rocky shores
And I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I′ve been the first Australian
But we are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream, we sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
I hope you all've got your singing voices with you
It's time to pull ′em out of your pocket
Let′s do this and let's rip the roof right off of this place
We are one (come on), but we are many (yeah)
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream, we sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
Share a dream and we sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
Thank you very much
