Symphony Songtext

Symphony Songtext

Always wanted to write a symphony
Who knows, maybe I never had it in me
But through all those 5am alarms
And commutes and blue suits it faded away
If it was ever there to start

Now when I hear The National
Or Cigarettes & Alcohol
I stop and think of what could have been
Then I hear the noise downstairs
Smile at the cyclone wating there
I′m living a different dream

So many reasons that I put it down
You know, it doesn't always come around
Once you get into the serious stuff
The breakups, the breakdowns, the disappointed frowns
Gradually, it′s all in the past

Rather than reminisce
And rail and fight and risk I'll miss
The magic of the enchantment I've cast
I′ll revel in this spell
And I won′t pretend that I somehow fell
From a fictional, glorious past

Always wanted to write a symphony
Who knows, maybe I never had it in me
But this is the song I have
The cracked voice, the bum notes, the words stuck in my throat
No opera, but the best that I have

So when I hear The National
Or Cigarettes & Alcohol
I won't think of what could have been
No, all I do is go downstairs
Smile at the cyclone waiting there
I′m living a different dream

Always wanted to write a symphony
Who knows what I've got in me?
