The Battle of the Trees Songtext
I′ve been a word
And I've been a book
And I′ve been a harp
And I've been a tear
I've been a sword
And I′ve been a shield
And I′ve been a bow
Disguised for nine years
I'll sing for you now the story of the battle of
Goddeu of sprigs against the Gul′dig of Prydain
There passed grey war horses ridden by great warriors
And fleets full of riches and monsters never seen
They had wide jaws
And many big heads
And hundreds of claws
And lots of foul shapes
Black sprawling toads
And frogs out of lakes
And loud bleating goats
And dark speckled snakes
There was a calling upon the Gods of all Creation
And yes they answered with voices and with deeds
Trees were enchanted and brought to life And given voices
Then were unleashed swift upon the battlefield.
Willows and plum trees
Medlars and maples
Rosebushes, alders
Were in first row
Privet and woodbine
Ivy and cherry
Pine trees and elder
Were in their tow
Come lovely trees (wake up)
Come follow me (wake up)
Come you will see (wake up)
You will be free (wake up)
You have to fight (crash 'em)
All through the night (tear ′em)
With all your might (burst 'em)
For our right (rip them all)
All trees were led by a lovely woman singing clamant
Minstrels were playing and warriors cried loud
Branches and roots all were crashing and tearing
And bursting and ripping and bringing fatal death
Aspen and beech tree
Chestnut and birches
Oak, elm and pear tree
Trembled the earth
Holly and bluebells
Heather and hawthorn
Fern, gorse and hazel
Brought up the rear
Now at the end of day all over the battlefield
The blood of men up to thigh, bodies all around
Leaf covered now the earth at last nature overwhelming
Took back the ground that the metalworkers found
Forest and hill
And meadow so still
And stream without mill
And lake, brook and rill
River and mountain
Streamlet and fountain
Woodland around us
Forever free
And I've been a book
And I′ve been a harp
And I've been a tear
I've been a sword
And I′ve been a shield
And I′ve been a bow
