The Ol' Guitar Picker Songtext

The Ol' Guitar Picker Songtext
Well, the old guitar picker
Sure had that old flat-top figured out
And the blues and the smooth southern women
Always gave him something to sing about
And the best licks ever made to record
They just floated through the air
And the downtown streets were crowded
With people dancing in the square
And I was only a boy of eleven
But I somehow understood
That the old guitar picker
Just played it ′cause he could
Well, the old guitar picker
Sure has seen the changes come and go
And he likes to say he's forgotten
More than I′ll ever know about rock and roll
And I met him last November
In a smoky backstage room
And he pulled out my old Gibson
And he burned through a tune
And the young guns and the lucky ones
Sat up and listened good
While the old guitar picker
Just played it 'cause he could
Now the old guitar picker
Can't control the trembling of his hands
But he still gets a grin from the ladies
Lord, we tell them all he′s with the band
He said, "There′s only one rule in music
If it sounds good than it is"
Yeah, it's a mighty tough puzzle
Making music in the money biz
But when it all comes together
You know it ain′t hard to understand
Say you're a guitar picker boy
Then go play it ′cause you can
Sure had that old flat-top figured out
And the blues and the smooth southern women
Always gave him something to sing about
And the best licks ever made to record
They just floated through the air
And the downtown streets were crowded
With people dancing in the square
And I was only a boy of eleven
But I somehow understood
That the old guitar picker
Just played it ′cause he could
Well, the old guitar picker
Sure has seen the changes come and go
And he likes to say he's forgotten
More than I′ll ever know about rock and roll

And he pulled out my old Gibson
And he burned through a tune
And the young guns and the lucky ones
