Catalpa Songtext

In the sticky, summer heat
As we strolled down Ousdahl street
The wind blew steadily through the Catalpa trees
The blossoms fell softly at our feet
It looked like snow but our eyes were deceived
We heard some college kids on their balcony
Vapor cigarettes and yelling epithets
Making lists of girls they ain′t conquered yet
Some may ache for youth
Couldn't pay me to go back
To black-out curtains and curses of panic attacks
We barely hold our laughter at bay
Hands over mouths as our shoulders shake
We′re hoping somehow the sound don't reverberate
We make it safe out of audible range
Our laughter suddenly quelled by the pang
Of wasted youth and the urge to return again
Tonguin' candy in my molars as a kid
Grass-stained jeans and bubblegum cigarettes
Tiger-striped grip tape I added to my deck
Never landed more than a heel-flip
Now I′m old and boring
Swollen and beholden to statuses
Of friends I hold dear
And their palaces
All fixed thirty years
While I rent
Til′ the end
The end
