They're Gonna Take You Away Songtext
I′m Martha Quinn and we're back on MTV with Rudi Protrudi
Did I meet you before? (Yeah)
When did I meet you before?
It was the first time I was in LA in 1986, Stiv Bators introduced us (oh)
At the Cavern (oh, right)
Rudi, when I listen to your records it sounds like it′s very '60s influenced
What were you actually doing in the '60s?
I was avoiding the draft
You and a lot of other people, were you eventually drafted?
No, I was number three on the draft lottery
They tried to get me and I eluded them
How, what did you do? How did you get out of the draft?
Well, I had a very unpatriotic thing tattooed to my saluting hand
And every time I would salute an officer, it would offend him greatly
Do you still have that tattoo?
Yeah, I do that′s why I wear this black glove all the time so no one can see it
My body is burning and my soul is aching inside
My feet do not move but I know there′s nowhere to hide, nah
Well, there's a pounding in my my head, feels like a hammer in there
Now I know that I don′t wanna wind up in jail
Ever since that day, that sorry day
That my notice came in the mail
Well, if you wanna be free
And don't laugh away sergeant′s horse
Listen to the voice of necessity
Don't look in your mailbox
If u get your call, you better pray really hard
And if you′re in school, I said you better not fail
Well, it came in the mail
They're gonna take you away
They're gonna take you away
They′re gonna take you away
They′re gonna take you away
Oh, they're gonna take you away
They′re gonna take you away
They're gonna take you away
They′re gonna take you away
They're gonna take you today
They′re gonna take you away
They're gonna take you away
A lot of performers have um, I don't want to embarrass you
But showed up to pay tribute to you guys
In fact, I′ve heard that Ian Asbury actually roadied for you guys, is that true?
Yeah, it is true
How did that happen?
Well, he came to see us several times and we struck up a friendship
Then he started to actually come to shows with us and carry our equipment
This is true, yeah, a couple times
Once we let him sing with us
Did I meet you before? (Yeah)
