Lily White & Cherry Red Songtext
I never work but don′t have to steal
Assume it's all mine because they feel
Like they have to give it up when I ask
It′s really a game, it's really a guess
This record begins where the world began
A sweet chick little animal first crawled onto land
It tried to attack you, but Edmund stepped in
Even though we make fun of him, he's a good friend
You were the king and queen rolled into one
But the rabbles stoned the temple in a desperate lunge
Tiny Edmund Wilson drove us to your gaze
But none of us could figure out the source of his hate
Because everyone pretty much seemed to love you, Cherry Red
We all see the beauty and we are in your debt
But Edmund is immune; his wisdom gave us a clue
He showed us it was stupid to suffer for you
This record will end where the world began
Leap into the Bronze Age, ready to defend
The closeness of the lovers just before they were split
We were just a bunch of innocent kids
Lighting the signals with a parabolic lens
We don′t see a difference in the target audience
They shuffle their feet, anticipating the end
Not much temple left for Edmund to defend
Minos kicked you out like small wounded birds
Or else keeps you too close so you won′t get burned
Screaming at two skinny girls who came to the show
Pay no attention to them, it was over long ago
We're feeling left but we′re moving so right
The wind came to blow down the trees that night
We offered our help with fried chicken and things
That surely would have clipped just about any birds' wings
The words come so quick now but the spirit is free
Maybe it′s a blessing that temple fell into the sea
It doesn't realize it′s one step, spends his time
Plotting your ruin from a copy of mine
If he could get a weapon that was powerful enough
An enemy at random so save the rough stuff
The festival came to us with its spinning logs
We lapped it up just like eager dogs
Assume it's all mine because they feel
Like they have to give it up when I ask
It′s really a game, it's really a guess
