Hoodoo Stew Songtext

Hoodoo Stew
(Selwyn Birchwood, Selwyn Birchwood Music

It was the 13th day on a Friday night
I heard cries from the woods and howls of delight
I made my way to the edge of that swampy brush
Made my way through the sticks to take a look

A full moon smiled on a giant pot
Over a smoldering fire, which was bubblin′ hot
The hoodoo man dancin' round and round
That hoodoo stew, made of skull and bone

Two frog legs and an eye of newt
A dash of snake blood and a Johnny Conqueroo
I held my breath as I stood to watch
When the hoodoo saw me, out the corner of his eye

He marched right over and to my surprise
He grinned from ear to ear with that alligator smile
He said I′ll spare your life, boy, let's see what you've got
There′s only one thing there, gonna keep you out of that pot

He said "Play me a song, boy. Play me a tune,
If you wanna keep out of that there hoodoo stew"
I grabbed my six-string before it was too late
Before I thought twice, this is what I played

After it was done and when it was through
I made my way right back out of them woods
I′ll never forget that old, rusty tune
That kept me out of that there hoodoo stew
