Follies Bergère Songtext

There I was stranded in Paris
Without a Franc to my name.
That′s how I came to work,
At the Follies Bergere.
And not to seek fortune or fame.

When you work at the Follies Bergere,
When you work at the Follies Bergere,
You leave your modesty in the dressing room,
Along with your underwear.

At the Follies Bergere, the Follies Bergere,
You wear nothing here, and you wear nothing there.
You just wear a hat, a beautiful hat.
And you give them this, and you give them that.
No, not this, that, voila.

At the Follies Bergere the customers stare.
Some nights I found it was too much to bare.
Why I nearly froze,
From my nose to my toes.
And nobody looked at the hat.
La la la. La la la.

At the Follies Bergere, the Follies Bergere.
The director was cute, his name was Pierre.
Such a sweet guy, he knew I was shy.
So he gave me a rose to wear by and by.

At the Follies Bergere I felt like a square.
But I walked with my nose and my rose in the air.
But some guy who was tight,
Went flower picking that night.
And nobody looked at the hat.
La la la, La la la.

At the Follies Bergere, the Follies Bergere,
Me and Pierre, we started to care.
Then he fired me one night, and we had a spat,
I thought it was cos no one looked at the hat.

He said you are so short, and the girls are so tall.
They are so big, and mon dieu, you are so mon petite
He said Cherie you where never meant to be,
One of the girls at the Follies Bergere.
To me you're a joy, but they make you look like a boy.
I said why don′t they look at the hat.

But I do not care, I married Pierre
He treat me so sweet like a chocolate eclair.
What was not enough for the Follies Bergere,
Is more than enough for Pierre.
Voila!
