I'd Rather Be a Memory Songtext

I'd Rather Be a Memory Songtext

She could hear him softly breathing, never dreaming she was leaving
Being careful as she closed the bedroom door
There ain′t no turning back now, she's got her suitcase packed now
That she′s unpacked so many times before

She sits down at the table, tonight she's finally able
To write down what's been going through her head
Her taxi′s out there waiting, without any hesitating
She lays down the note, and this is what it said

I′d rather take my chances on whatever lies ahead
And we both need a different point of view
If I could turn this pencil over and erase the hurt you've said
You′d find me coming running back to you
But I'd rather a memory than a fool

He wakes up all hungover, and reaches out to hold her
But finds nothing there on her side of the bed
There ain′t no coffee making, his hands begin shaking
He finds the note, and this is what it read

I'd rather take my chances on whatever lies ahead
And we both need a different point of view
If I could turn this pencil over and erase the hurt you′ve said
You'd find me coming running back to you
But I'd rather a memory than a fool
I′d rather be a memory than a fool
