Angels in Poverty Songtext

Angels in Poverty Songtext

Angels, we're angels in poverty
I saw this brother looking sadder than a Mills and Boon novel
He was hopeless so apart from faith he had nothing at all
when people walked past him he say deep things, sweet things
giving advice on how to keep things
Like an angel manifested in poverty he spoke back to me
Now he was deeper than some brothers I knew
who spoke of right knowledge, class war and life in college

Don't want to stress his name on this track
but he saved my life once that's why I show this love back
the true definition of survivor, sweet old timer, walk around writer
poverty Pied Piper

His only household was an old shopping trolley, with a flower in his hat
never sorry but jolly, like God was on his side, givin' him pride
he told me always keep your head up in the system of lies
that's why
like a ninja man invested in poverty he spoke to me feeling blue
he spoke back to me
Now he was deeper than some brothers I knew
who spoke of right knowledge, class war and life in college

the power of ignorance makes no sense, it's meritocratic, the religion now is Pounds and Pence
and the rest got thrown in his hat, he replied with Jah, bless
do you really wanna know about the hard times sat in the street with shit to show

he said he didn't drink booze but he dis smoke dope
he rolled up his sleeves tattooed on his fist was love and hope
he said he had it done to remind him of faith and happiness at a time in his life
when he was pissed off being put to the test, living in a mess
he made me smile and hang around a while
hearing old stories about where we lived by that Bristol bridge
I went to go and check him bright and early, in the place where he would usually be
but he was missing, thinking where the hell is he at
staring at a piece of cardboard where he usually sat
so I relaxed my mind hoping he ain't dead
with the advice on life up in my head
love and hope my friend is all that you've got
when you're rich it's hard to see but when your broke it's a lot
so I relaxed my mind and I thought of my children
lighting candles in this old church building
this homeless man who had faith like a Samaritan
who picked me up
he was gone and so was the stink
he was broke but no joke, he was gone
like a ninja man invested in poverty
