The Ballad of Old John Songtext
This story began in december 1965
It tells us about how good old John lived no happy life
She worked as a waitress at an old local bar
Left home all alone and worked all night to stay alive
John worked fixing cars so when he earned some free time
He would walk into that joint and he′d just stare into her eyes
She once looked back and threw John a come talk to me grin
So he took a last sip of his recently poured Jim Beam
He got up and asked her what would her name sound like
That was their first step into a movie worth long ride
John asked her hand in marriage exactly 3 years from there
No one could have any doubts about the feelings they shared
As the time passed by some problems started to appear
But he was weak and selfish, empty bottles were always near
Drinking all that whiskey and taking those pills
A lost young man can only care about how good it feels
She left him and went back to her small hometown
And started crying over the love she thought she found
The memories haunted him, the thought of her did drive him mad
She couldn't go back to him so she learned to live with her past
She met a working man with calloused hands and big heart
They wrote their book together, had a long happy life
He spent his last days drinking all the things that he made
Thinking ′bout how his mistakes threw that pretty girl away
He used to sing one endless song
'Bout all the things that he did wrong
He gave up on the things he wanted
Old John wound up all alone
He used to sing one endless song
'Bout all the things that he did wrong
He gave up on the things he wanted
Old John wound up all alone
