When I was younger
I′d wrap my two covers
around me so very tight
made a cocoon of bedsheets
and they would protect me
from things that go bump in the night

I'd ask my father
could he check the closet
and please leave on the bathroom light
this would keep them away
hold the darkness at bay

and for years that′s what he did.

He said ooh it′s fine to be scared of the dark
just for now cause you won′t be someday.

Turns out he was right
as the years went rolling by
I said farewell to the things
that go bump on the night
