Old Boots and Tattered Rags Songtext

Looking out from here I wonder what to do
And so I turn to you my good friend
What would you recommend?
But then I realise that you′re no longer here
You went out there to fight with the other men
So you likely died

I'll wait until it′s dark
And then go walking down the road
Some old boots and tattered rags
To hide my fine silk, jewels and gold
The palace isn't far, just a few days walk away
And when I step out into court
The king will surely welcome me

Avoiding the faces as they go past on the road
But then a group surrounds me
And without a word knock me out cold
When I come around, I find they've stripped me bare
Just these old boots and tattered rags
Are all they spared

And now I′m just a man
Walking up and down the road
These old boots and tattered rags
My sole possessions in the world
And now I see the world from another point of view
When I see the people smilin′
I don't know what to do
