Celluloid Sue Songtext
I once knew a girl name of Celluloid Sue
She couldn′t dance, but she knew what to do
She said she'd been in the silent picture show
But she had an accent, so they had to let her go
Oh, Celluloid Sue, don′t sell your soul
Celluloid Sue, don't give a roll to just anyone
'Cause I believe in you
She spent her nights in the Silver Dollar saloon
She stood on the stage, but she couldn′t sing a tune
The other women in town didn′t like the show
The preachers, bankers, lawyers said she had to go
Oh, Celluloid Sue, can I take you home?
But Celluloid Sue'd rather be alone
Then live with fools like me
But she didn′t get out fast enough
The men in white sheets said it's time to get rough
They put a cross up on her front lawn
Set it on fire right before the dawn
She said "I′ve know you men
And you've been pleasured, sirs"
She stood her ground, so they tarred and feathered her
I begged her to go, she said she must stay
I won′t let these hypocrites have their way
I warned her again, she just looked down
Three days later they found her body outside of town
I shivered in my sheets and I wondered how
It got that far, it got that far
Oh, Celluloid Sue, you should have left
Celluloid Sue, well, you were deaf
To everyone, 'cause you believed in
Celluloid Sue, I can't go on
Celluloid Sue, well, I′ll take this gun
And say goodbye to this cruel world
She couldn′t dance, but she knew what to do
She said she'd been in the silent picture show
But she had an accent, so they had to let her go
Oh, Celluloid Sue, don′t sell your soul
Celluloid Sue, don't give a roll to just anyone
