You always said you would burn out fast
When we huddled on the beach around a vodka lit fire
Those were the best days I can barely recall
In the confusion of our youth and drunken sprawl
We′d talk for hours about the meaning of life
Without a notion what awaited us on the other side
That summer gave my whole lifetime of hope
Before the recognition struck that we were totally fucked
We'd walk for miles just to all meet up
Catching chills on the beach when the fires burnt out
But in a Bob′s shop booze induced blanket we swaddled
Sand between our toes from the midnight paddles
We'd retreat to the dunes just to get away
Finding sand in weird places for days
We all had a picture of what would come
But thank god we didn't know just how much we were wrong
