The Stars Songtext

The Stars Songtext

You should look up to the skies you said
You should open the window with the lights off
You should watch the skies to catch a glimpse of the stars
You should take another look
You said and said and said and said again
Night skies death opens up before me
A thousand twinkling tragedies
Sparkle before my eyes and I shake my head
Despite what you say I know they are dead, all gone
Old light and crackling glimmers of life′s last breath
You said I should lighten up
And see the stars for what they are
Beauty shining in the dark
But what they are is not what you think
And when you told me to lighten up
I knew you meant it, but I also know you didn't see
The awkward irony that the stars you love
So much are lit up by a thousand distant chemical deaths
Smouldering heat and intensity, refining the sky
And making it brighter
Oh so much brighter

You should look up to the sky you said you should
Open the window with the lights off
You should watch the skies to catch a glimpse of the stars
You said and said and said and said again
Dine I replied, I will look up to the skies again
I will turn my face upward and look far beyond myself
To find a sparkle or a moment or a death in action
Like you said, but I will do so, I said, from deep
Within the city with a million local lights
To illuminate the skies a meta-modern paradise
Of love lived and lost lament
I would look to see the skies
But no stars
The stars are dead to me
I hope I don′t see stars as I said
You just laughed and laughed
And laughed and laughed
And laughed
