David's Place Songtext

David's Place Songtext
My little boy took off today to go to David′s Place
It's really not that far away, just down the road a trace
Just about the furthest, he′s ever had to stray
But pails are pails and after school is the only time to play
His mother said, "Now should we let him go,
He's not showing any signs of fear"
I said, "Why not, he's old enough and has to learn my dear"
So we sent him on his way to cross Route 23
Where cars and trucks come crashing down, all to climb a tree
Now it′s not long from after school to when the stars come up
But mister it′s a lifetime when the leash ain't on the pup
Until you hear him on the stair and know he′s made it home
And that boy of six has learned the tricks of crossing streets alone
I guess the time is coming; when will it turn the page
That says our boys are older now and should be past that stage
But now and then I'll ponder, with a certain sort of grace
That every little boy must have to go to David′s Place
