The Hare and the Duiker Songtext

The Hare and the Duiker Songtext

The hare and the duiker went off to find food
Not in the forest it seems
But off to a moonlit vegetable patch
Where they ate all the farmers′ green beans
But while they were eating the farmer awoke
And chased them away with a shout
And the very next night they returned to the patch
To find they had been fenced out
Never tell tales like the hare once did on the duiker
His very best friend
Never tell tales to a farmer or your job
And your friendship will end
So the next day the hare went along to the farm
And he said to the farmer you know
You should take me on as a night watchman
And then all your green beans will grow
So the hare was hired and each night he would eat
Just a green bean or two

The duiker looked on from outside the fence
And the farmer they thought never knew
Never tell tales like the hare once did on the duiker
His very best friend
Never tell tales to a farmer or your job
And your friendship will end
Then one night the hare let the duiker come in
He said eat and don't you be shy
Then he woke up the farmer and said with a smile
What a good watchman am I
But the farmer said I have been watching you too
And you have told tales on your friend
Your footprints are not like the duiker′s
And your job has just come to an end
Never tell tales like the hare once did on the duiker
His very best friend
Never tell tales to a farmer or your job
And your friendship will end
