Mashonaland Farewell Songtext
von John Edmond

Mashonaland Farewell Songtext

And now I walk the Concrete apron, great skyliner standing by.
Dare not turn to wave a last time lest they see my hazy eyes.
Just like a flashback in the movie on a screen far in my mind.
I live the precious days all over; all in a molecule of time.
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka. Try not to let the sorrow tell.
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka, Mashonaland, farewell.
Proud were the eagles on the water,
Their mighty wings embraced the sky.
White hooded watchers of the river.
No more to hear your plaintive cry.
And still I marvel at the forest;
The baobab in silhouette;
Golden sunglow on the faces

Of the folk I can′t forget.
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka. Try not to let the sorrow tell.
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka, Mashonaland, farewell.
The copper trinkets in the window,
The picture postcards of the sights;
Jacaranda littered sidewalks;
Cricket-serenaded nights.
Two suntanned arms that were around me;
Lips that kissed a fleeting "why?"
Eyes that questioned me with sadness,
"Must sweet togetherness just die?"
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka. Try not to let the sorrow tell.
Goodbye, Sarai Zvakanaka, Mashonaland, farewell.
