Mum and Reg, I heard ′em talking one night and they couldn't afford the rent
For the palace, I told you about the palace with the septic tank
So we had to move, and we went through a series of houses Mum would find the cheapest house you could get, falling down
She′d make Reg fix it up, paint it, and we'd move in
And then the landlord would see the house, put the rent up and we'd have to move again

But Mum didn′t feel comfortable anywhere, like I said
And she wanted to be back in Elizabeth
With the rest of the Scottish immigrants and her pals and all that there
My mum had taken us from the dark streets of Glasgow
And now she was taking us back to the dark end of the street in Elizabeth
