I could argue with the best of them about where we came from
Convince you over coffee that Jesus was God′s son
Take that empty feeling that everybody feels
And use it against you 'til you were on your heels

I was sure as sure can be
I was working for eternity
And there was hell to pay
If you saw it another way


Now the only thing I′m certain of is that I ain't certain about much
It's easy to be right it′s not so easy to choose love
Sometimes I miss that feeling of having it figured out
Have to fight that temptation to know what life′s all about

Spent a lot of time workin on my foundation
Convincing myself that my reasons were reasoned
Trying to sort it out is what finally did me in
Guess I threw away the puzzle when the pieces didn't fit

Yes I understand
That I′m a broken man
That's why I′m slow to say
That I know what God thinks
