At the Going Down of the Sun Songtext

Memories of hardened times we′ll share.
My brothers, never fear- this time next year we all shall be at home.
We watch the fading setting sun, and dream of better days to come
In green and pleasant lands across the foam
Fighting for liberty we raise the flag -For the glory of this sceptred isle:
Standing together and dying as one -Facing the End- single file

Bare-faced boys running into the fray against the common foe
Banished fears awashed in tears - Remember, tell all the folks "hello"
And did these bloodied feet in darkling times
Walk through night-wastes bathed in green
So where is the holy lamb of God now?
In these burned and twisted pastures obscene.

Not for us, the glorious golden Autumn, nor the distant sound of friends well met
Ours is the Kingdom the Power and Glory etched immemorial: "least we forget"

With pride we brought forth the Golden Bow, and put our faith in the arrows of desire;
But the clouds just rained death from above, whilst the leaden chariots spat fire.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn."

The fellows neither East nor West could see, confusion in a crimson tide
We charge unfearing, forward for the glory.
Running to the light as in the past "- cannons to the left and to the right"
The words reverberate: a legions' fateful story.
The shrapnel falls in deadly rain upon the upturned eyes,
Again fulfilling prophecy of blindman leading blind.
And all once through clouds of green
A generation′s war machine is to a final bloody end consigned.

Mother - Father - We all - Are coming home - I am - As ever, Your son.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
