We′re walking in the tall grass
The dew is on our jeans
The summer sun is rising
And the mockingbird sings
When I close my eyes I'm there
And it does my heart good
But it seems so far away
From where I am today

I read it rained last week in Springfield
I bet the corn is shoulder high
I see it dancing on the west wind
Beneath the big Missouri sky
I can see the yellow ribbon
You tied around that cottonwood
And I see the gravel road
That will lead me home

I might be home for Christmas
We'll have to wait and see
But if I can not make it back
