Our Little Town Songtext

Our Little Town Songtext
My father worked the factory as did his own before
My mother washed and mended for the men that passed its doors
You could see the sky high smokestacks from any place in town
And feel it′s living breath in the homes for miles around
We didn't have so very much but everything there was
We got working for a living - swapping pay for sweat and blood
Then one day faceless corporation bosses came to say
The human hand is not enough - we have a better way
And the Machines came
There was nothing you could say
With their cold hands
They took everything away
As the land died
Our houses flattened to the ground
We saw the sky grow dark
And the life we built there died without a sound
And the Machines came
There was nothing you could say
With their cold hands
They took everything away
As the land died
Our houses flattened to the ground
We saw the sky grow dark
And the life we built there died without a sound
My mother washed and mended for the men that passed its doors
You could see the sky high smokestacks from any place in town
And feel it′s living breath in the homes for miles around
We didn't have so very much but everything there was
We got working for a living - swapping pay for sweat and blood
Then one day faceless corporation bosses came to say
The human hand is not enough - we have a better way
And the Machines came
There was nothing you could say
With their cold hands
They took everything away
As the land died
Our houses flattened to the ground
We saw the sky grow dark
And the life we built there died without a sound
And the Machines came
There was nothing you could say
With their cold hands
They took everything away
As the land died
Our houses flattened to the ground
We saw the sky grow dark
And the life we built there died without a sound
