An Absence of Faith (Descent, Part 2) Songtext

An Absence of Faith (Descent, Part 2) Songtext
Altruism, collectivism, and every other ism
Are simply meant as a means to gain control
Whether through positive or negative reinforcement
These isms are a used as a way to transfer power, to demean
To trick those who might find power in their own individuality
Into joining a collective wherein they will be kept docile
If they are kept docile, reminded of their victimhood
And forever convinced that they are powerless
Then only those that command the collective shall have said power
Is craving a sense of belonging in the nature of man
Or is man simply conditioned to expect it
Through millennia of enslavement
How many times will mankind succumb
To the will of those who wish to control them
If man is not brave enough to stand alone
Is he then worthy of power in the first place
Perhaps power can only be given
To those who are willing to enslave
Perhaps the weak are nothing more than fodder
A means to an end, working themselves to the bone
In a meaningless and futile existence
The weak are the willing sacrifices
The weak are meat and the strong do eat
Are simply meant as a means to gain control
Whether through positive or negative reinforcement
These isms are a used as a way to transfer power, to demean
To trick those who might find power in their own individuality
Into joining a collective wherein they will be kept docile
If they are kept docile, reminded of their victimhood
And forever convinced that they are powerless
Then only those that command the collective shall have said power
Is craving a sense of belonging in the nature of man
Or is man simply conditioned to expect it
Through millennia of enslavement
How many times will mankind succumb
To the will of those who wish to control them
If man is not brave enough to stand alone
Is he then worthy of power in the first place
Perhaps power can only be given
To those who are willing to enslave
Perhaps the weak are nothing more than fodder
A means to an end, working themselves to the bone
In a meaningless and futile existence
The weak are the willing sacrifices
The weak are meat and the strong do eat
