The Self-Appointed King Songtext
There was a man of noble birth
Who journeyed to a distant land
And in this land he self appointed
Himself to be the reigning king
Before he left he called his servants
And gave them each a glistening coin
"Take this coin and be productive
Until the day that I return"
Oh, and in this land
Oh, he was a good good man
Oh, but the people hated him
Oh, "We don′t want him for our king"
When he returned he met a servant
"Here's what you gave; I made ten more!"
"What a good and faithful servant"
The man of noble birth replied
"See, you have been so trustworthy
With a very small amount
Now take charge of ten fine cities!"
His generosity abounds
Oh, and in this land
Oh, he was a good good man
Oh, but the people hated him
Oh, "We don′t want him for our king"
Approaching then a servant shaking
Revealed a coin beneath a cloth
"I was afraid so I concealed it
Safe so not one man can reach"
Taking in the words of whispers
Selfishness and fear arose
This coin was to be taken from him
And he journeyed through his life alone
Oh, and in this land
Oh, who was this man
Oh, but the people hated him
Oh, "We don't want him for our king"
Oh, "We don't want him for our king"
Oh
Would you let him be your king
Who journeyed to a distant land
And in this land he self appointed
Himself to be the reigning king
Before he left he called his servants
And gave them each a glistening coin
"Take this coin and be productive
Until the day that I return"
Oh, and in this land
Oh, he was a good good man
Oh, but the people hated him
Oh, "We don′t want him for our king"
When he returned he met a servant
