The Unwinding (Sparrow Song) Songtext

The softest footsteps I have heard,
gracefully pushing legs that stirred
the summer air and both,
they purred like someone sighing
out on the ancient city street,
while cups of coffee, keeping beat
as gentle hands tapped down
to meet the painted porcelain.
And there my face, it was the clouds,
my hands below were folded trees
standing where everyone could see
that I was trying.
But when the palms they took a bow,
it was followed by the applause,
a crowd of pigeons taking off
and everyone, they were flying

because go we all to be entertained.
Go we all to be there remaining.

And Jason, pulling from his bag what had to be his second pack,
unwrapped it, matched it, threw his head back,
and pulled a good one.
The silver ribbon he then threw,
between the story we both knew so well
but loved the most when it was something that was spoken
And both spread like petals to the sun
and slowly turned into the clouds
as we both laughed and watched
the marble in the stairwell.
Talking ′bout how it'd come to wear
from the day that it was laid
like the lines on someone′s face,
you couldn't make that,
no, you have to live that

because all we are are things unwinding.
All we are are people trying.

All we are are people trying.
