I heard there was a woman
Who lived far away from here
She had the answers to the questions
We′ve been asking all these years

She lived way up in the mountains
But I knew I had to go
So I walked for forty days
Through the rivers and the snow

And I said "Hey, won't you help me understand
Does it all just fade away like footprints in the sand?"


Then she asked me to remember
Some moments in my life
And I spoke in great detail
Every colour, every spice

It was vivid It was clear
I swear it felt so real
The more she asked me questions
The more that I could feel

The people standing by me
I hadn′t seen them there for years
She could see what I was seeing
Then she whispered in my ear

She said "hey, I hope I helped you understand
Does it all just fade away like footprints in the sand?
Hey, you'll never hold it in your hand
But does it all just disappear like footprints in the sand?"
Like footprints in the sand, I think, I think, I understand
