American Car Songtext

American Car Songtext

Take the key from the lock, take the phone off the hook,
Stand up straight, take a good long look,
In a roorn bought by the hour, two would be lovers stand,
Washed up from the shower and dried up on demand,
When she asked what he was thinking he struggled to say,
"Love like this don′t come every day,
And now that it's here I don′t know what to do,
Throw in my hand or see the whole thing through..."

Some old familiar feeling makes him rise to the bait,
Though he knows this kind of promise is never worth the wait,
Still he's looking for a woman with a tear in her eye.
Lipstick in her pocket, and an ear for a lie,
With the bargaining over the action began,
She took his love in the palm of her hand,
Said "Be a good boy and you won't get hurt..."
But he′s been lonely too long, he′s been treated like dirt.

When the movement was over and they lay there face to face,
He was thinking about another love in another strange place,
She said "You could take my life, it doesn't mean a single thing to me...
When my heart starts beating overtime, I give in so easily..."
Then they lay in the back of an Arnerican car,
Starting at the moon and counting all the stars,
When the pain got so big they couldn′t take anymore
She opened the window and he crawled our the door...
