Las Vegas Lament Songtext
von Buck Owens

Las Vegas Lament Songtext

Well, I came to Las Vegas
With my pockets full of money
Was a big diamond ring on my hand
Yeah, I rode into town
In a big long Cadillac
Yeah, I was a man with a plan

With a smile on my face, I walked up to the table
And I threw down a hundred dollar bill
I said, "Stand back boys, give me room, let me hit ′em"
That sped is just over the hill
Alas!

They want my bankroll, my diamond ring, my Cadillac
My life's savings are down the drain and that′s a fact
But the thing that hurt the most 'bout the whole doing that
Was his audacity to smile and say, "Please hurry back"

Then I called brother Ed, I said, "Send me some money"
'Cause I can feel a hot streak coming on
He said, "Sorry I′m broke, I just got back from Las Vegas
Why don′t you try our cousin Joe?"
So now, here I sit down at Western Union
Waiting for my bus fare to come in
Oh Bakersfield, I'm on my way
Good ol′ dad has come through again

They took my bankroll, my diamond ring, my Cadillac
Had the audacity to smile and say, "Please hurry back"
But when he grimed, said let's be friends
I thought I′d croak
For if I ever need a friend again, I'll buy a dog
