Staring for years at a candle
That lights where you′re pleased to see
All that is wrong with he picture
How the world could be
If only you were bathed in the bright light
Of how you were perfect before
Perfect teeth, perfect hair, perfect body
But who would that be for?
To my friends who are good enough to me
To reach for my face in the black

That I cannot reach back


All that it bleeds, all that it takes
Counting off how many years, how many days
Faces of light wait for you to see
You're not alone. You′re just lonely

I′m not scared of the night in the forest
Why am I not scared to die
But I am scared to turn off the candle
And see me with my own eyes?
I should pray to the ferns in the canyon
And thank G-d that they grow like before
Every ancient thing we are losing
Even though we need them more
So thank you to my lines all before me
Thank you, the color of sky
Thank you, my friends who are fighting
And all you do the stay alive
