As a young boy he′d look high in the sky

He felt like a bird in the world, he could soar
But as a young teen, it wasn't a fun scene
When his folks broke up he was torn at the seams
Seeing fighting, who′s wrong, who's right, caught in between
So worried, so hurried, no time, no green
Lo one day, clicking on the TV
He was caught by the screen thinking, "That could be me"
Through this epiphany, he found true purpose
Knew that it'd be harder than hell
But it′d be worth it
Many made fun, none would condone
The fact he′d be leaving back all he called home
Even so, he phones friends to go and hit the road
Now he's off on a mission because he knows

Each friend went from belief to bereft

He′s trying to ignore that the landlord is at the door
Hiding in the bathroom, lying on the floor
Mayday! Life raft lost on the waves
He's adrift watching as his ship is slipping away
When communique finally came it said
"Dear John, I′ve had affairs, but who cares, 'cause you're gone"
No one understands it′s his plan to succeed
Why he′d give up everything, why he sweats, why he bleeds
'Cause he sees with these dreams come bumps in the road
But nothing′s gonna stop him, in his heart he knows
