He must make a livin′ for a wife and child who wait for him at home
He never roams
And life is just a burden for his head
So he aches inside from all that goes unsaid
And his sweet dear Anna-Lee
She couldn't see his needs were changing
And he needed so much more than she could give
For him, the days were much too long

It was early spring a letter came
It read, "My darling Anna-Lee, I pray you see
I just had to take some time for me
All I need is just a little time to be alone
My love, oh, how I need to be alone
The business of the day won′t let me be
This life's not meant for me"

I had to get away
I couldn't take another day
I had to get away
I could not take another day

He divorced his future long ago and so, there is no time for him
I heard him say, "Life is just too much for me to bear"
And I guess nobody ever really cared
